Overview & Reviews
The new-for-'99 Grand Cherokee contains only 127 carryover parts from the previous model, and gets a new powertrain, rear suspension, braking and steering systems, 4WD system, interior and exterior styling.
- Still looks like a Jeep. Better engine performance and handling. Safety.

Good and Bad - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JBCJBC - June 10 - 2:00 amBest offroad vehicle. Great in snow. Best looking SUV out there. Reliability is well below average. Have replaced 1 computer, 3 sets of rotors, emergency brake, 1 window regulator. If you are going to buy one of these make sure you get the extended warrranty.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By AmCraft - May 27 - 2:00 amI heard alot of negitive things about the Jeep. After buying one, I love the feel of the ride, the handling of its 4 wheel select-trac system. I thas been an over all joy to own and drive. I have heard from other people, that some SUVs have different drive systems (automatic shifting). As far as I am concerned, if you cant control when it will shift, you cant control the vehicle. That is what makes this jeep lover happy.

BRAKES - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeep Freak - May 21 - 10:00 amI too have had the nightmare of worn brake pads, rotors, etc. about every 5000 miles. I found out right away the dealership is not motivated to fix anything, just replace everything. After numerous attempts to resolve the problem, I took the car to a neighborhood mechanic who simply found the problem. The calipers are not designed well and the caliper pins stick which causes the pads and rotors to wear/warp. When I took the car to him the pads were shot from the previous attempt to fix the problem. This mechanic replaced the pads under the lifetime warranty provision and then cleaned the calipers and greased the pins. I have not had a problem since.

Great vehicle - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By normanviking - May 10 - 10:00 amI bought this vehicle used. For $16,000. It had 70,000 miles on it. The only thing I did was replace the cv boots. Everything else is great.

Reliability - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Gnd. Cher.Own v8-LAR - May 3 - 2:00 amI suggest that if you buy a Jeep, you also buy an extended warranty. I paid around 1,500 for my warranty and within the last 2 years, my differential went, door locks went, etc... Total repair costs covered by the warranty are approx $3,000. The best thing is that the warranty has another 3 years to it. I will be sure to sell it before it expires.

my 1999 jeep grand cherokee 16 year review - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By TJF - April 14 - 12:29 pmafter 16 years of ownership, heres my take on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo V8 4.7L AUTO/PS/PB/AC/etc. THE GOOD: exterior paint job is EXCELLENT and shows 0 signs of wear ... hats of to the paint department at chrysler on this one ... the interior ... excellent shape (no leather seats, just fabric) ... dash board - not 1 crack ... no weathering ... the interior has held up over the years and is in EXCELLENT shape. 4.7V8 Engine ... good power, been very reliable (1 exhaust manifold replaced), transmission solid ... just a sensor that went that made it shifting from 2-3 gear slip ... of course ive ALWAY ALWAYS ALWAYS changed my oil at 3,500 miles and done the tranny FLUSH on scheduled basis. visibility is awesome, some you CANNOT find today except in a subaru forester. towing is awesome. the size (particularly the length) is spot-on at 181" ... todays mid-sized SUVs routinely occupy the 190+" range ... seats are COMFORTABLE and still hold up - not great on LONG journeys though (500+ mile days). fuel economy is low, but not different than what i expected and it runs on 85 octane. THE BAD: electrical, sensors, water pump, radiator split, CV boots, leaking axles, AC, oil pump sensor, PCM - 3 times thus far and counting ... cannot but an OEM PC M must buy it remanufactored from less than reputable 3rd party suppliers, electrical wires between door jams fail/frayed, sensors, sensors, sensors. all these failures started occuring around the 90k mile mark ... and have consistently nickel and dimed me all the way to the 141k mark (where im currently at). i cannot trust the jeep to go anywhere other than locally in town ... and having paid close attention to the tranny and electrical issues on the 14 JGC (and the fact that chrysler corporate fatcat execs elimanated the rear flip window, something i use EVERY DAY), ill be running with the 2017 4runner when it comes in december 16 ... overall, the jeep has met my needs, but for people who keep their vehicles for a LONG time, dependability/reliability/durability is lacking.

Used 1999 Limited Grand - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Phil Ferguson 100 - February 8 - 2:00 amGreat value SUV. Brought it used in 03,a local lady had owned it. Perfect condition and paid 2/5 of original cost, with 60k mileage. A bit boxy, stiff ride, some drive train noise comes through in the 1999 edition. Great in the Wyoming winters, outdoors, off-road. Nice highway use, but still an SUV in terms of a highway feel. We put Waag grill/tail light guards on it and it looks tough. Great package for the money!

Not So Grand Cherokee - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By blauten - February 1 - 10:00 amI too have had trips to the dealership to repair/replace brakes (twice), transfer case lead twice and still leaking, rear shocks, front stabilizer bar(twice). Now scheduled to take it in for a 3rd time for brakes and only has 30,400 miles on the vehicle. Since it is out of the 3yr. warranty, the kind man on the other end of the toll free Chyrsler phone said they would replace brakes, rotors, and calipers for $50 cost to me. I feel they pretty much destroyed the Jeep name. Wished I would have leased instead of purchasing it in 99. Never Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1999 Jeep Grand cheroke - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By gwcoggin - January 24 - 1:40 pmI can not get the brakes fixed, needs a new set of rotors every 10,000 miles. The transfer case goes 20,000 miles between leaks in the transfer case. It is very capable off road and it is a wonderful vehicle to tow behind my Motorhome.
